About

Hackney Flea Market started as a pop-up event on 20th July 2013, with the aim of offering vintage marketeers and creative independents an affordable space to sell their wares and promote their business, in the busy heart of Stoke Newington's Church St.

Since then, Hackney Flea Market has grown to a monthly weekend market, attracting the most eclectic traders from around the country, building a reputation as the go-to place to find an amazing mix of salvaged, one-of-a–kind, lost/found objects, and handmade goods. As well as our regular events at Stoke Newington, Hackney Flea Market has hosted a Pop-Up at Chats Palace, and will be continuing to pop-up at various locations across Hackney and beyond in 2015.

In August 2014 Hackney Flea Market expanded to include a new Bi-Monthly D.I.Y. Art Market event. The D.I.Y. Art Market champions original/unique items, a space for lovers of all that is D.I.Y. and self-published. Exhibitors have included the most innovative of London’s emerging artists, illustrators, designers, and small press publishers.

Music is an integral part of Hackney Flea Market’s great atmosphere, our sound system is sometimes manned by local DJs playing vinyl rarities, or we compile playlists which are an eclectic mix of rare and obscure musical treasures.

All in all, you’ll not see or hear anything like what you’ll find at Hackney Flea Market events.

What the traders say about Hackney Flea Market

Annie ‘Chaleureuse’
‘There's a really good mix of stock at reasonable prices, from taxidermy to 50s frocks, maps, midcentury house things and copper pans from France (but I would say that, I sell the pans!) Most of all it's a great atmosphere. My favourite fair in London to stall out at’.

Tan ‘Oldthings Oldtrunk’
‘Amidst all the so-called 'Vintage Flea Markets' that keep popping up these days in London, Hackney Flea is by-far one of the best that I have experienced, both as a seller, and a visitor’.

Chloe Stanyon (a London based designer)
‘This weekend's Hackney Flea Market was a great success for the CS sale, almost all stock sold at great prices to very happy leather loving customers. Hackney Flea is tucked away in a beautiful hall off of Stoke Newington's, Church Street. A bustling fair of Vintage clothes, home ware and handmade goods from independent creatives, it's a monthly event not to be missed’.

Hackney Flea Market was founded by Mark Farhall, he oversees the markets’ brand, daily operations, and curating of traders/exhibitors as it has grown to become one of East London’s most popular markets. Mark studied MA Illustration at Central St. Martins School of Art, has worked in art education for over ten years, given drawing workshops at The Jerwood Space, London, as part of the 2010 Big Draw, and at The National Gallery, London, as part of the Bridget Riley exhibition. He is both nationally and internationally published artist, (Café Royal Books, and PictureBox Inc), had an Arts Council funded solo show exhibition, and three drawings shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize (2010, 2015). He’s a self-confessed seeker, hoarder, aficionado of comics, zines, ephemera, records, mid-century furniture, and been a trader of vintage/collectables for over twenty years.
